What is sleep apnea?

Sleep apnea is more than a snore. In fact, if you or someone you love snores regularly, this is important information. Snoring could be a sign of a serious health condition!

Sleep apnea is a serious but common and treatable disorder that causes you to stop breathing during sleep. In severe cases, breathing stops several hundred times per night.

An “apnea” occurs when the back of the airway collapses or becomes blocked. That may cause you to snore, then gasp for air as you wake briefly to unblock the airway.

People with sleep apnea get poor quality sleep and will feel tired during the day. They may also be moody and irritable, have trouble concentrating, and may experience problems like drowsy driving.

If you think you might have sleep apnea, take our risk test. It will help you identify signs and symptoms of sleep apnea, and you can show the results to your doctor to discuss testing and treatment.

Knowing the symptoms of sleep apnea, especially what happens at night and during the day, is the first step toward making the most out of your sleep so you can live healthier and happier.
